ICLEI KOREA’S CASE STUDY SERIES NO.15 Changwon’s Efforts for Biodiversity: Activities to Conserve Toads in Ramsar Ecological Park Changwon City has undergone industrialization, which started early on, resulting in heavy destruction of its natural environment. During the Ramsar COP 10 in 2008, Changwon declared itself an environmental capital and since then has exerted its utmost efforts to restore its local ecosystem. As a result, the quality of urban streams has improved to which endangered species such as sweet fish and otters have returned. Changwon’s interests in urban biodiversity go back to April 2020, during which emergency activities were carried out to protect toads spotted at Ramsar Ecological Park. Amphibians like toads are considered as an indicator species that represent the health of wetland ecosystems. In this sense, Changwon has relentlessly performed research and practical activities systematically to protect toads and revive the urban ecosystems under the joint collaboration with local civic groups, academia, and corporations. Activities to conserve toads living in the urban park can be considered a journey to finding an answer for the city and biodiversity to co-exist. [사례연구] No.15 - 창원시 람사르생태공원 두꺼비 보전활동 창원시는 일찍이 시작된 산업화와 공업화로 자연환경이 많이 파괴됐다. 2008년 '제10차 람사르 총회' 개최를 계기로 환경수도 창원을 선포하고 지역 생태계를 회복하는데 온 힘을 기울여왔다. 그 결과 도심 하천의 수질이 개선돼 은어와 수달 등 멸종위기 생물들이 다시 찾아왔다. 창원시는 2020년 4월, 람사르생태공원에서 발견된 두꺼비 긴급보호조치활동을 하면서 도시 생물다양성에 더 큰 관심을 갖게 되었다. 두꺼비 등 양서류는 습지생태계 건강성을 나타내는 지표종인 만큼 창원시는 지역 시민사회, 학계, 기업과 협력해 두꺼비 보호조치 및 도시 생태계 복원을 위한 체계적인 연구와 활동을 지속적으로 펼치고 있다. 도심공원에 서식하는 두꺼비 보전활동은 도시 내 생물다양성에 해답을 얻는 과정이라고 할 수 있다. 창원시는 교육을 통한 시민들의 인식증진, 민·관·산·학 협력체계를 통한 지속적인 활동으로 생물다양성이 보전되는 지속가능한 도시의 모습을 모범적으로 보여주고 있다. ○ 문의 : 정책정보팀 윤영란 팀장 (younglan.yoon@iclei.org / 031-255-3251)

이클레이 도시 기후 행동 시리즈 2호, 광명시 광명시민에너지협동조합 "시민들이 만들고 이익을 공유하는 도심 속 태양광 에너지" '이클레이 도시 기후 행동 시리즈'는 기후변화 적응과 온실가스 감축을 위한 지방정부의 사업과 정책을 소개하는 사례연구입니다. 'ICLEI Cities Climate Action Series' is a case study that newly started to introduce local governments' projects and policies for climate change adaptation and GHG mitigation. 2호는 태양광에너지 발전 사업을 통해 시민 주도형 에너지 전환을 하는 '광명시민에너지협동조합'의 사례입니다. The second case study is Gwangmyeong City's Citizens' Cooperative for Energy. It led citizen-driven energy transition and climate action through photovoltaic power generation projects. 국문과 영문 버전으로 제공됩니다. It is provided both in Korean and English.
